Agitated Thin Film Dryer
The last wet step. Concentrated liquor is spread as a thin film against a heated wall and dried to a handleable solid, closing the loop on liquid discharge.
An agitated thin film dryer takes the concentrated liquor from the evaporator and turns it into a dry solid. A rotor with hinged blades keeps the liquor as a thin, constantly renewed film against the jacketed wall, which gives a high heat transfer rate and a short residence time even for material that is heat sensitive or prone to fouling.
It is a compact unit for the duty it performs, and it is what allows a plant to say it discharges no liquid at all — the vapour is condensed and recovered, and the salt leaves as a solid for disposal or reuse.
